Urban Cowgirl

They had me at the name with this collection! I think in a way it speaks to this blog as I have this image of a sophisticated, stylish country lass rocking her cowboy boots in the big city (see what I did there?) 😉 Morgan Taylor wanted to capture the “essence of a fearless, modern woman, whether she is a cowgirl who loves the city lifestyle, or a city girl with a country side” and they most certainly nailed it as this collection suits any lifestyle and has a colour for every girl. This simply stunning range FINALLY made it’s way to South Africa in time for our Autumn, after enticing us since Spring last year (it was their Fall 2015 range) and when I saw the colours, I just couldn’t resist – not bright but bold, warm shades. The temperatures have definitely plummeted and these gorgeous earth-toned shades are the perfect way to warm up any gloomy winters day. Along with your boots, thick woolen scarves and a steaming latte, you need nails that are on point with the season and this Urban Cowgirl range has you covered with all the beautiful shades of autumn in one unique collection.  It was no easy feat but I selected three colours to try, Tan My Hide, A Touch of Sass and Pumps or Cowboy Boots? The names are just too cute though!

Tan My Hide: I adore nude nails, no matter what the season. There is just something soft and sophisticated about them and this colour is a real gem. It’s a creamy nude with a beige undertone so it’s a warmer nude which is the perfect nude to wear in winter as it gives your hands  colour and doesn’t drain the life right out of your fingers as some nudes can do.  This shade did need three coats as it was slightly streaky with just two coats but it lasted almost a week. It has the slightest simmer to it but this is more noticeable in the bottle than on your nails.  For some fun I added a party nail with a candy polka dot polish that complimented it beautifully!

A Touch of Sass: I’ve never been big on red nails but when my nails are short, I do enjoy it and this shade caught my eye as it is a deep cranberry red with a creme undertone and not a fire-engine red. What I loved was how easy it was to apply and it only needed two thin coats. That’s always a win for me as even with a quick-dry top coat, more than two coats takes longer to dry than my patience lasts! I’ll probably get more wear out of this on my toes but it definitely adds a cheeky splash of red hot sexiness to any outfit!

Pumps or Cowboy Boots: Love, love, LOVE this colour! I am all about my deep, dark shades in winter and this one has stolen my heart. This deep chocolate brown (that happens to match Wellington’s coat perfectly!) is beautifully glossy with high shine. It’s very pigmented so also only needs two very thin coats to give you completely full coverage. It’s a very chic and stylish shade that gives instant glam whether you are a country bumpkin or city slicker – the name has to be my favourite too!

Two other colours from this collection that I’m itching to try (and if I wasn’t under observation for my polish addiction I would have them already!) are Plum Tuckered Out (a gorgeous dark plum) and From Rodeo to Rodeo Drive (a purplely, greyish toupe with a slight pearly shimmer) which is actually a Gelish colour so I’m off the hook with buying it! You can get a number of Morgan Taylor shades in Gelish as well as polish (check out the colour matching chart here) and there are some shades from collections that are exclusive gel colours.  I got these colours from Dischem and Sorbet stores for R138.00 each.

Happy almost weekend 🙂 And snuggle up, it’s going to be a chilly one!
