With fabulous ranges of bath and body, nail polish and skincare already in place, it was only a matter of time before Sorbet added another range to its stable and this one I’m particularly excited about. Two years in the making, in partnership with Clicks, Sorbet has launched its very own makeup range – the very first South African makeup range! Sorbet Cavendish, as one of the flagship stores in the country, was chosen as one of the branches to launch the new range and when the invite arrived in my inbox, I couldn’t reply quick enough! With goodie bags, bubbly and lots of products to try out, it was the perfect introduction to this gorgeous range of makeup.
To get the ball rolling, Sorbet and Clicks launched The Skin Tone Project, reaching out to 3000 women in an effort to create a foundation range to match all skin tones – a project that resulted in 28 different shades being created (the most extensive range in South Africa). Sorbet Salons and selected Clicks stores also have an in-store Foundation Match-Me service where experts will help you select the perfect shade to suit your skin tone. With four different foundations to choose from, for the girl who likes a light, barely there finish, to the one who prefers on-set, camera ready glam, there is definitely something for everyone.
Next up, Sorbet put together a range of products to help you easily create your own look at home, whatever the occasion. From lipsticks to mascaras, blushers to bronzers, powders and concealers, they really have you covered and that’s not all – you can also choose from a range of brushes and blenders to help you perfect your look and then the necessary tools to take it all off.
Sorbet have also put together the Sorbet Stars – their tops picks of must-haves to help you narrow down your choices a little more.

At the launch, we headed to the Match-Me station where the lovely Sorbet ladies helped us select the perfect match for our skin tone and then we could try out the different foundations and choose our favourite to take home. While day-to-day I generally use BB Cream and powder, I went with the Airtime Mousse for a little something different as the texture is delicious and the coverage great for evenings out. We were also treated to a free mascara if we purchased a few goodies too so I picked up the Just Peachy Shimmer and Glow Bronzer, Under-eye Concealer and Brow Pencil Duo. With four mascaras to choose from, it was a tough choice but I settled on the Lash Cheat Super Volume and Length Mascara. I also tested out a few of the lipsticks – you can choose between Get Lippy (a moisturising, long-lasting finish) and Matte Kisses (a semi-matte finish) and while the textures are lovely, the shades (twelve in total) were all a bit bold for my taste.
Shimmer and Glow Bronzer – Just Peachy: This is my absolute favourite product from the range (or at least the ones I’ve tested since there quite a few I still need to get my hands on!) Then again, I do love my bronzers and highlighters 🙂 This gorgeous shimmer powder reignites your glow with illuminating particles to give you instant skin-kissed radiance and the soft pearl particles just catch the light to give you a subtle, natural glow. I chose the Just Peachy pallet as I prefer a slightly pinker bronzer and love the peachy tones this creates. As I’ve got a few bronzers that lean more to the pink shades, this a lovely addition to my collection as it’s a little something different. You can use this to blend as a bronzer on face and body or use each individual colour strip as an eye shadow. Also available in Bronzed Beauty. Retails for R199.95.
Browsability Brown Shaper and Highlighter: I probably only started filling in my brows about a year ago but can’t believe the difference it makes! Your brows really shape your face and while on some days they can really take on a life of their own, when on point, they really make an impact! I love this Brow and Highligher Duo that fills and shapes your brows to really show off your arch. The highly pigmented colour glides on with ease and lasts all day but is not so pigmented that you can’t achieve a feathered look. The highligher end helps you to create your desired shape and highlight your arch. I went with the Medium Brown and it’s the perfect match for my brows. This one gets two thumbs up from me! This retails for R149.95.
Airtime Mousse: With four foundations to choose from, it wasn’t an easy choice but the texture won me over! How delicious does it look?? This light, air whipped mousse gives full coverage matte finish and is non-greasy. It glides onto your skin and blends easily to obtain a flawless, light finish. My Match-Me colour was Natural Beige but the Airtime Mousse doesn’t come in that shade so I went with Buff which was the closest I could get. While I wouldn’t wear this every day, it is perfect for evenings out or times when a fuller coverage is required. I love that it contains SPF15 (because you can never have enough sun protection!) as well as Vitamins A, C and E, Alpha Linolenic acid and Linoleic acid which are both soothing and beneficial to the skin. R199.95 for a 24g tub (25 – 40% more product than other brands)
Lash Cheat Super Volume and Length Mascara: I had such high hopes for this mascara but it sadly did not deliver in my opinion. The full fibre brush is designed to provide maximum volume and length and the mascara itself contains microfibers for length. I liked the feel of the brush and while it made application easy, it didn’t have the wow factor I was hoping for, despite building it up with a few layers. I do like that the mascara contains Argon oil to moisturise and Panthenol and Vitamin E to condition your lashes but this is one product I won’t repurchase. Retails for R159.95.
Undercover Under-eye Concealer: This is another product that I was very excited to try out. With serious dark rings under my eyes, I need all the help I can get to hide them and as this concealer contains Guarana seed to increase blood flow and reduce puffiness as well as Vitamins A and E and Omega 3 and 6 as skin nutrients, it’s not only covering things up but being put to work at the same time. It is designed to give you a goodnight’s sleep look and since I’m running on very little sleep at the moment, it’s really got it’s work cut out for it! Unfortunately though, it did very little to reduce the appearance of my circles and I applied my go-to concealer over it. Since this pen packs a punch with it’s ingredients, I like the idea of popping it on under my regular concealer and taking advantage of the goodness (rather than letting it lay dormant in my Beauty Box) I do like the consistency of this product though and it did blend really nicely so I may still try the Medium Warm and see if a slightly darker shade makes a difference (although I don’t think it will suit my skin tone). R159.95.
While a few of the products I tried were disappointing, on the whole I really like Sorbet’s new makeup range and I love their packaging! It’s really chic and professional and I think it fits in well with their branding. There a few products I still want to test, especially Stroke of Genius Precision Pen Eyeliner, Glow & Tell Liquid Highlighter and Prep & Poreless All-In-One Super Face Primer. Have you tried any of their makeup? I’d love to know what you think!
Have a wonderful Human Rights Day friends!
