Dermalogica’s latest wonder product, Biolumin-C Serum launched at the end of July and they’ve knocked it out of the park with this one – it’s a real winner. The new Biolumin-C Serum brightens skin from within by combining ultra-stable Vitamin C complex with advanced bio-technology to enhance the skin’s natural defense system and helping it to fight back against the natural and environmental triggers it endures every day. Vitamin C has been used in skincare for many years due to its powerful antioxidant properties and ability to naturally fight signs of aging and improve collagen production. It’s one of the more effective products for treating pigmentation and lightening darker spots but a lot of products on the market contain unstable ingredients which are unable to to reach the right place and provide effective protection. Vitamin C can also become oxidised when it comes in contact with air, light or heat which degrades the quality of the Vitamin C – the Biolumin-C Serum was formulated with advanced technology to enable it to deliver more Vitamin C into the skin.
Biolumin-C contains key ingredients that work with the skin to brighten, firm and defend. The ultra-stable Vitamin C delivers a powerful dose of antioxidant for brighter, firmer, more radiant skin, while the lactic acid helps remove dulling debris to reveal brighter, more hydrated skin. Sophora japonica flower extract calms the skin and combats stress and the salvia hipanica (chia seed) oil is rich in antioxidants to moisturise and help prevent free radical damage. And finally the Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate protects against free radical damage and helps even skin tone while the Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 firms skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. With this little gem of a product bursting at the seams, it’s no wonder it really packs a punch! According to Dermalogica, it delivers three times more vitamin C to the skin than it’s leading competitors!
Before trying the Biolumin-C Serum, I was quite nervous as I have tried products with high doses of vitamin C in them and I’ve broken out in a rash as I have very sensitive skin but four weeks of using this product and I only have good things to say – and no rash! It’s not often that a product gives you such visible results but my skin is definitely brighter and the tone and texture is a lot smoother – so much so that I am a little more comfortable leaving the house without base on which says a lot. The pigmentation on my forehead is also a lot lighter and is far less noticeable than it was before I started using this product.
I really like how easily this serum slots into my skin care routine. It comes in a 30ml glass bottle with a pipette which means there is no product wastage and according to Dermalgoica, if used correctly twice a day, the product should last 1 and a half months. They suggest you use a full dropper full of product each application but I use about 3 drops and that’s enough to cover my whole face. I apply the delicious smelling serum morning and evening after washing/toning and smooth it over my face and neck and then apply my moisturiser. In the evenings, I then apply Dermalogica’s Sound Sleep Cocoon to lock it all in (you can read that review here).
The Biolumin-C Serum retails for R1495 for a 30 ml bottle so it doesn’t come cheap and is definitely an investment product. But after a month of using it twice a day, I haven’t even used half the bottle so a little goes a long way. Based on how my skin has felt since using the Sound Sleep Cocoon and Biolumin-C, they are products that are definitively worth the investment.
