Christmas is all about summer sunshine (well in South Africa anyway!), family and friends, love, laughter and glittering festivities. I love decorating our Christmas tree and adding touches of Christmas around the house. The decorations in the shops seem to get bigger and more breathtaking every year and the hum of Christmas carols can be heard almost everywhere you go. In our family, Christmas day is the big event with a delicious feast served for the whole family – everyone brings a dish and there is always someone’s favourite on the menu. And the leftovers are almost as good as the main event!
My husband and I stumbled across Ucook about a year and half ago and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen me posting a few of the delicious meals we’ve had. Ucook is a meal-kit delivery service that takes all the guess work out of your cooking by measuring, packing and delivery everything you need for a quick, easy a delicious dinner. I love the convenience of not having to think about what to cook for dinner – for me, the worst part about cooking dinner is actually working out what to cook – and then having three meals delivered straight to your door is another definite plus. The recipes are easy to follow and I’ve made quite a few of them again. Another great thing about Ucook is that is cuts down on your kitchen waste as all the ingredients are measured out for the exact portions. As I am a vegetarian, we always get the meat-free boxes (I am lucky that my husband is happy to have a few meat-free meals in the week 😉 ) so I can’t weigh in on the other boxes (easy peasy and health nut) but the boxes are slightly cheaper but the portions are more than generous and quality of ingredients are fantastic. Orders must be in by 10am on the Wednesday for delivery on Sunday or Monday and although it is a subscription service, you can pause your subscription at any time (just remember to do it before 10am on the Wednesday!)
Last year Ucook launched their Festive Feast boxes, delivery every you need for an exceptional Christmas lunch or dinner tailor made to suit your guests, that will knock their socks off. A complete Christmas box is lovingly packed with starters, mains, desert and a choice of sides. Your box can serve up to 12 people and you have a choice of 2 starters, 5 mains, 7 sides and a light but unbelievably delicious Eat ‘n Mess for desert. Your final decision is an easy one – what day you would like you box to arrive (22nd, 23rd or 24th December)
The Ucook chefs have gone out of their way to come up with a phenomenal menu that suits a hot summer Christmas – but that is also as simple as possible so that you are not slaving away in the kitchen all day! You can enjoy your meal knowing that the chefs have sourced the highest quality, ethical, sustainable, free-range and locally produced ingredients to fill your box.
Here’s what you can look forward to in your box:
Starters: Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli (V) or Roasted Figs in Prosciutto
Mains: Stuffed Festive Roast Chicken / Beef Fillet Tagliata / Whole Baked Kob / Franck’s Pork Belly or Vegetrian Caponata Tart
Sides: Loaded Green Salad / Classic Roast Potatos (V) / Duck fat Classic Roast Potatos / Cheesy Cauliflower Gratin / Maple Glazed Carrots / Bruleed Baby Onions / Braised Red Cabbage
Desert: Eat n Mess with raspberries, strawberries and pistachio
I was recently invited to the incredible Ucook Feast to try dishes from their 2018 Festive Box. Hosted at a magnificent Clifton villa with views for days, we were greeted with rum cocktails and Warwick wines, a Vida coffee station and great summer tunes. While the most delicious smells were wafting out across the patio and just before the tables were heaving with indulgent dishes, the Warwick wines sommelier recommended each wine to pair with each dish so we could really great the best from both the wine and the food. My favourite dishes of the day were the spinach and ricotta ravioli with sage butter and toasted walnuts, loaded green salad with crisp greens, broccoli and pear, maple glazed carrots with thyme, garlic and coriander seeds and the Eat n Mess which had me licking the bowl! You can’t go wrong with a Ucook Festive Feast this year and it will be your most delicious Christmas yet.
The UCOOK Festive Box is priced from R300 per head and can be ordered for parties of 4, 8 or 12, and is available to order on https://christmas.ucook.co.za until 11 December 2018. Final orders must be placed by 11 December 2018 for delivery on your selected date (depending on your location).
