When it comes to skincare, I’ve always kept a very simple routine. I love trying new products but my base products always stay the same. A daily cleaner, moisturiser and then a face scrub/mask a few times a week. I’ve dipped my toe into the facial oil pool once or twice but I’ve always shied away from them with the thinking that they will make my skin look oily or my skin will break out. My opinion quickly changed after I came across Heart Tree natural and organic skincare products.
This proudly South African brand, handmade in Claremont is all about natural skincare and creating a range of products that really works. Founded by Kate Kirkland, Heart Tree uses only the most natural and highest quality ingredients of which the majority is wildcrafted or organically-grown. All ingredients are extensively researched and all products are carefully formulated by Kate. Only non-GMO natural vitamin E oil (derived from sunflower seeds) is used in some products and all products are free of chemicals or preservatives. AND they are not tested on animals. Kate firmly believes that what you put on your skin is just as important as what you put in your body and I couldn’t agree more. Did you know that it only takes 26 seconds for chemicals to be absorbed through it into the bloodstream??
My cousin and I were having a chat about skincare and she told me she had been using facial oils and introduced me to Heart Tree. Heart Tree offer a Classic Sample Set which included four key products from their face range. It’s an excellent way to trial the products you are interested in without having to buy full size products, only to find your skin doesn’t agree with them. The sample set includes a 5ml Facial Cleansing Oil, 10g Exfoliating Clay, 5ml Moisture Elixir and 2ml Anti-Ageing Eye Oil. I loved the sound of the Rose Geranium Hydrosol too so I added a sample bottle of this to my order too.
Moisture Elixir: This lightweight, antioxidant-rich and naturally beautifying facial oil that penetrates deep into the skin cells to hydrate and rejuvenate. It helps to firm skin by stimulating collagen production, helps soften fine lines and wrinkles, and protects the skin against sun damage. It also helps to regenerate the skin by encouraging cell turnover and evens skin tone. Packed to the brim with natural ingredients such as Marula oil, Rosehip Seed Oil, Red raspberry seed oil, Jojoba oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Pomegranate seed oil and many more, this little bottle is pure liquid gold!
Hands down my favourite product from the range! Despite my hesitation towards facial oils, I’ve been using this morning and evening and it has since replaced my daily moisturiser. I’ve mentioned previously that I’ve struggled with pregnancy-related pigmentation and while I didn’t purchase this as a solution to my pigmentation, it has far surpassed my expectations. My skin is so incredibly soft, hydrated and has a glow to it (I’m always so hesitant to use that word because it sounds so fluffy, but it is honestly the only way to describe how my skin looks!) I went back to using my regular moisturiser after my sample finished and the first thing I noticed was the difference in my skin’s texture. I’ve been using the Elixir again for about 3 weeks and it is the best my skin has looked in a very long time – and my pigmentation has faded dramatically. I wish I had taken before and after photos for you but I wasn’t expecting to have such visible results!
Rose Geranium Hydrosol: Heart Tree’s Rose Geranium Hydrosol is incredibly healing, hydrating and balancing. It is both a refreshing and nourishing skin toner and enhances skin health with its anti-ageing properties. It is great for soothing and calming for irritated, inflamed or damaged skin and is suitable for all skin types. You can also use it to treat sunburn and the scent is just heavenly!
This comes in at a VERY close second to the Moisture Elixir when it comes to favourites! I spritzed a little on my face and neck after cleansing and then added the moisture elixir. You can use this product throughout the day for a lovely refresher when your skin feels a little tired. The benefit of using the hydrosol is that it prepares the skin by helping to “lock in” the moisture. It also makes the beauty oils last longer as you use less product 🙂 I just love how refreshing this spray is!
Exfoliating Clay: This Cape kaolin clay exfoliator gently polishes the skin to remove impurities and dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling soft, clean and nourished. It is packed with minerals and doubles-up as a great face mask. Made from Cape kaolin clay, organic arrowroot powder, French pink clay, sodium bicarbonate, this clay is effective yet gentle and suitable for all skin types. You can mix the powder with water or Rose Geranium Hydrosol to create a creamy consistency and then gently exfoliate the skin. The make a mask, apply the paste to your face and neck after cleansing and leave for five minutes to work its magic.
I’ve also tried two different ways of using the mask – one with diluted Apple Cider Vinegar for a deeper cleansing experience and the other with raw honey for a more hydrating and restorative mask. I loved using it with raw honey as my skin felt incredibly soft and hydrated. I really need to be better about exfoliating my skin as I can really notice the difference after using this a few times a week.
Facial Cleansing Oil: I’m not a huge fan of cleansing oils as I prefer a foaming face wash that leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean but this cleansing oil is great for removing make-up. If I’ve worn more make-up than usual, I like to pre-wash my skin (usually with Micellar Water). This cleansing oil works really well as the dirt and make up dissolves as you massage it into your skin. Heart Tree’s Facial Cleansing Oil contains marula oil, jajoba oil, macadamia nut oil and hemp seed oil which cleanse, hydrate, soothe and balance your skin’s natural oils. It also smells heavenly!
What are your thoughts on facial oils? Have you tried Heart Tree’s products before?
