I’ve quickly come to realize that keeping my busy bub busy and entertained for a full day is hard work! I’ve also realized that winter is going to be even more if a challenge with the cold and (hopefully) rainy days. Last winter was all about snuggling up by the fire, reading books and taking naps – this year is all about finding indoor activities to keep Oliver busy! And with attention spans of 0, it not easy to find activities to keep toddlers busy long enough to drink a hot cup of coffee!
Last term we signed up for Busy Bubs in Claremont. Run by a fellow mom, each week Jenna introduces a new theme to focus relevant to toddlers (a colour, the farm, the sea, etc) and creates activities that play to the theme. It’s a brilliant way for littles to learn, engage and be entertained. It’s also a great way for us as moms to learn new ways to stimulate and engage with our toddlers at home. Most of the activities use household items and grocery cupboard staples so you also don’t need to spend a fortune on props to keep your toddlers engaged – and we all know if they enjoy a task for more than 5 minutes, you are seriously winning!
So what is Busy Bubs? Busy Bubs is a programme aimed at toddlers and is focused around the whole child approach which is an approach that promotes the long-term development and success of a child. Development is how a child grows physically and emotionally and learns to communicate, think and socialise. The Busy Bubs programme provides a platform which aids in harvesting all of the important skills needed for early childhood development, through fun, messing, moving, exploring and experimenting in a playful way. At Busy Bubs, toddlers have the opportunity to explore, observe, experiment, solve problems and learn from their mistakes – all while having fun!
Busy Bubs – Let’s sing, let’s mess, let’s play!
We LOVE our mornings at Busy Bubs! There is always so much for the littles to engage with and Oliver always sets out exploring the new things Jenna has set out for them. What I really love about these classes is that there is so much variety in the morning. Jenna fully understands the very limited attention span of little ‘boddlers’ as she likes to call them and is always happy to adjust the schedule when necessary. If she sees they are losing interest in an activity, she’s not afraid to quickly move on to something else and she’s also incredibly relaxed when it comes to letting them participate on their own terms . And if she sees they are loving the free play, she lets them carry on a bit longer than planned – and let’s us moms enjoy the time to drink hot tea and chat a little longer!
‘Boddler’ = a fun, made up word to describe baby toddlers between the 12 and 18 months who are very tricky to keep busy!
As winter fast approaches and the rain gets ready to (hopefully) settle in in Cape Town, keeping little people busy gets that much more challenging. So with that in mind, Busy Bubs and I, together with two fantastic South African brands, have put together a giveaway designed to help boddler moms drink HOT coffee! This is one hamper that I really want to get my hands on!
